How to Grade Your Device Before Selling to Techy Company

Before you sell or trade in your phone, tablet, or laptop, it’s important to know exactly what condition it’s in.
At Techy Company, we’ve created a simple grading system to help you understand how your device’s condition and battery health affect its value.

Our goal is transparency — so you always know what to expect before getting your offer.

New

Factory Sealed and Never Used

  • The device is still in its original packaging, with all factory seals intact.

  • It has never been opened, activated, or used in any way.

  • All accessories are untouched and included in the box.

  • Devices must also be free from any network or contractual restrictions.

If your device meets these criteria, you’ll receive the highest possible trade-in value.

Mint

Looks and Feels Brand New

  • No scratches, marks, or scuffs — not even light hairline ones.

  • The screen, frame, and back are flawless.

  • Every feature works perfectly (Face ID, Touch ID, cameras, speakers, etc.).

Battery Health (for phones and tablets):
Battery capacity must be 95% or higher (found under Settings → Battery → Battery Health).
A lower percentage indicates normal wear and may slightly reduce your offer, since a replacement might be needed for resale.

Good

Fully Working with Light Signs of Use

  • The device is 100% functional and ready to use.

  • Small surface scratches or scuffs are acceptable — nothing deep, cracked, or damaged.

  • All major functions (touchscreen, camera, Wi-Fi, sound, Face/Touch ID) must work as expected.

Battery Health:
Maximum capacity should be 90% or higher.
If it’s below 90%, we’ll need to replace the battery before resale, and a small fee (around R250) will be deducted from your final payout.

Poor

Functional, but with Visible Damage or Issues

  • The device still powers on but has noticeable damage, such as:

    • Cracked or heavily scratched screen

    • Dented or bent casing

    • Faulty components (camera, speakers, Face ID, etc.)

    • Swollen or degraded battery

  • Devices in this category may still have value, but pricing depends on repair costs and parts condition.

If your phone “works but not well,” it likely falls into this category.

Apple iPhones – Battery Health Policy

Apple devices are especially sensitive to battery wear, and this can affect both performance and resale value.

If your iPhone’s battery health is below 80%, it must be replaced before we can resell or certify it.
The replacement cost will be deducted from your trade-in payout.

This policy ensures all Techy Company iPhones meet our quality and reliability standards.

How to Check Your iPhone’s Battery Health

You can quickly check your battery health right from your iPhone settings:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap Battery.

  3. Choose Battery Health & Charging.

  4. Check the Maximum Capacity (%) reading.

Here’s how to interpret it:

  • 95% – 100%: Excellent condition

  • 90% – 94%: Good, minimal wear

  • 80% – 89%: Acceptable but may lower trade-in value

  • Below 80%: Requires replacement before resale

Keeping your battery healthy helps maintain your device’s performance — and its value.
